Health Care
The latest directory for Ganges shows 15 resident practicing
medical doctors including a resident surgeon. There are five
dentists and a full range of alternative medical practitioners
from counsellors, naturopathy, acupuncturists, massage therapists,
chiropractors and physiotherapists.
Drinking Water
There are three drilled and engineered wells on the property
producing more than 4000 gallons per day of domestic drinking
water duly approved by the Islands Trust and the Health Department
and the Capital Regional District.
Electricity
Preliminary discussions have taken place to connect these
strata lots to the British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority
public system for delivery of electricity. If this is accomplished,
power will be available at the roadside of each and every
lot. The alternatives are that each strata lot produces its
own service of electricity or that the strata corporation
builds and runs a generation plant to distribute electricity
to each and every lot or realizes a tremendous opportunity
for solar energy, heat pumps and a private hydro plant.
Sewerage
The subdivision is not serviced by a community sewer system
but each and every lot has been approved for disposal of sewerage
by septic tank and field by the Health Department of the Capital
Regional District. Every purchaser must bear the cost of constructing
any such system after applying for and obtaining a permit
from the Health Inspector who may be contacted by telephone
at 250-537-4314.
Telephone
If B.C. Hydro is brought to the property so will telephone
land lines. The alternatives are that each lot owner accesses
the several cellular satellite telephone networks available
to this area.
Satellite Television
The land has excellent exposure for satellite reception.
Natural Gas
There are several large leased propane tanks on site and there
is a readily available supply of propane for pickup or delivery.
Street Lighting and Sidewalks
There will be no street lighting nor sidewalks supplied by
the Developer.
Garbage
There are no garbage disposal services available to this land
but there are two private garbage companies on Salt Spring
Island. There is also a recycling centre run by Capital Regional
District in Ganges. The strata council may make arrangements
for a collective disposal service on the lands.
Schools
School District #64 operates 3 Primary schools on the Island
and one Middle and one Secondary School along Rainbow Road
in Ganges. Additionally, there are various private and alternate
schooling, and pre-schooling programs available on Salt Spring
Island. The School Board is located at 112 Rainbow Road, Salt
Spring Island, V8K 2K3 and may be contacted at 250-537 5548.
Police
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have a detachment located
in Ganges.
Hospital
Lady Minto Gulf Islands Hospital is 20.0 kilometres from the
development in Ganges. The facility has a 24 hour emergency
service, and operates acute care beds and extended care beds.
There is also an intermediate care private hospital and full
time ambulance service.
Fire Protection
The lands are not within the boundaries of a Fire Protection
District.
Driveways
Access to each building site is by way of private driveway
from the strata road. All lots have viable driveways to each
house-site. There is no asphalt paving on the land.
